Unsung Heroes: The Veterans Who Shaped Our Lives and Continue to Inspire Generations
Nov 11, 2024
This Veterans Day, I wanted to take a moment to honor the memory of my step-father, Alan Jones, a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army Special Forces and shaped the leader I am today.
Allen came into my life when I was 13, bringing with him the unwavering values of hard work, integrity, and service to others. He was an outgoing person who was full of life and while he rarely spoke of his time in Vietnam, the few stories and moments he shared with me emphasized the quiet strength he carried from those experiences and taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and determination against the odds.
Like many veterans, Allen faced the invisible battles of PTSD, yet he never let it diminish his commitment to family or his dedication to helping others. He showed me that true strength isn't about avoiding challenges but rather it's about facing them head-on with courage and perseverance.
His influence on my professional journey has been profound. Every time I tackle a complex project or lead through difficult changes, I hear his voice celebrating my tenacity and hard work. He was always my strongest advocate, helping me recognize my own potential long before I could see it clearly.
The leadership principles I practice today of embracing challenges, maintaining unwavering integrity, and lifting others up... these are all echoes of his influence.
To Allen, and to all veterans who have served our country: Thank you for your sacrifice, your courage, and the lasting impact you make on generations to follow.
