Let's have gratitude for the unfinished things
This time of year things start to get really busy and the messages get louder...
Be grateful. Slow down. Savor everything.
And yes, those are good reminders... but I want to offer a different one.
It’s okay to be grateful for the things that aren’t finished yet too.
The project still in transition.
The career shift that’s taking longer than you hoped.
The new role you don’t completely feel at home in.
The change you're leading that still feels messy and not fully adopted.
Or in my case the last 20% of our house that is still not completed.
The world moves fast, and this season can add another layer of beating ourselves up with the idea that "I should have done more by now.”
If that feeling is showing up for you, I hope these words resonate deeply.
You are allowed to honor what’s unfinished without rushing to complete it.
Some of the most meaningful things in our lives never arrive fully formed.
They arrive only in fragments:
a conversation
a decision
a boundary
a second chance
a small but real shift toward who you're meant to be
Coming from years of leading transformation and change, I can say without a doubt that we don’t have to wait for the ending to recognize the value of the middle - that's where many true transformations actually happens.
I'm sharing a different way to have gratitude this week and gain clarity
I made a short FREE printable you can download:
“Five Things I’m Allowed Not to Finish This Year.”
Use it if you’re feeling buried, or if you want to sit with your progress without turning it into a performance review.
➡️ Download it here (PDF link)
You can write one sentence.
You can write five pages.
You can just look at it and exhale.
Any way you use it is the right way.
What I'm loving...
🌊 A human-approved tip / tool:
Tool: Pause app - it's guided mindfulness that's not cheesy and it costs much less than many of the other mindfulness apps out there.
🌊 A Simple pleasure:
In Cold Weather: If you're in a colder climate like I am, when you get up in the morning toss what you're going to wear in the dryer for 10 minutes - then put it on. There is something about having warm clothes to step into that just sets your day off to a good start.
In Warm Weather: On the flip side if you're someplace that is hot right now, take a spray bottle, fill it with water and add some peppermint or rose leaves to it and keep it in your fridge. In the mornings close your eyes and give your face a light spritz to energize and cool you off.
🌊 To Listen or Read :
Podcast: "The Gap and the Gain" by Dan Sullivan and Ben Hardy. While it's been out for awhile, this four-part mini-series explains how to shift your mindset to one of positivity and abundance in order to stay happy and motivated - if you're traveling for the holidays each episode can be listened to in under 30 minutes.
Before I go...
As we head into this Thanksgiving week, I’m reminded that real change starts by recognizing how far we’ve come individually and together. Whatever comes your way, I hope you get a moment that belongs only to you. A breath, a look out a window, a quiet reset.
Thank you for investing your energy here, for moving your mission, your teams, and your own leadership a little further each day. Your presence and your effort, especially in a world full of constant change matters more than you know.
Warmly,
Heather
